Mighty impressive soundtrack brimming with love!

96 is a one-of-a-kind album that takes you on a trip into unknown territories. It breathes love right from start to finish, and approaches it in a way like never before. Govind Vasantha has come up with a lovable soundtrack that will have a long-standing effect on the listeners. This is brilliance of the highest order.

Cast: Vijay Sethupathi, Trisha

Music: Govind Vasantha

Lyrics: Karthik Netha & Uma Devi

Direction: C. Prem Kumar

Label: Think Music

Anthaathi: Singers – Chinmayi, Govind Vasantha, Bhadra Rajin, M.Nassar (Voiceover)

What a pot of gold. After starting off with clear and mellifluous vocals, the song teases you with a delayed elevation which is easily the best portion of it all. Later, Chinmayi brings traces of the fantastic Kaathalae Kaathalae back into the hunt, culminating in M.Nassar’s wonderful description of love. It’s a lyrical triumph led into an atmosphere of mind-bending music that will definitely – eat you up. I’m already calling it to be amongst the five best songs of the year. Our PICK.

The Life of Ram: Singers – Pradeep Kumar, Govind Vasantha

An eclectic fusion that breathes live instrumentations in lilting fashion. Pradeep Kumar is an apt pick, and he walks his way into the song with a charming rendition. Of course, he shows his class in seamlessly jumping between the core lyrics and the stressed bits. Another PICK in the album.

Yaen: Singer – Gowri TP

A moody track where the music goes into the background and the vocals sit at the fore. Gowri makes it work.

Vasantha Kaalangal: Singers – Chinmayi

Another minimalistic melody where Chinmayi holds our attention together, reminiscing memories all the way.

Thaabangale: Singers – Chinmayi, Pradeep Kumar

A lovely composition bent on the stretched rendition from both Chinmayi and Pradeep Kumar. The interludes have shades of Ilayaraja in them, thereby overshadowing the vocal part of the song. Our PICK.

Iravingu Theevai: Singers – Govind Vasantha, Chinmayi, Pradeep Kumar

The fact that Govind Vasantha maintains an exclusivity despite filling the whole soundtrack with melodies is a work of class. Chinmayi is terrific once again, and the veena organizations sweeten the air.

Kaathalae Kaathalae: Singers – Chinmayi, Govind Vasantha

Harmony is what this is all about. It’s amazing how the song still stays in its own world, and does not abide by the usual format. Music is all about bringing the listener into a new ground, and this one does it successfully. Our Final Pick.

Kaathalae Kaathalae: Singers – Kalyani Menon, Chinmayi

Kalyani Menon’s vocals sound a little too odd for this scene and might make you step away immediately. This is probably a tricky move from the team, with an actual effect later.
