The makers of 29 The Film have unveiled a new promotional video titled World of 29, offering a heartfelt glimpse into the film’s emotional core. Featuring lead actors Vidhu and Preethi Asrani, the video captures a tender romantic moment between the protagonists, hinting at the film’s tone and narrative depth.
The sequence begins with Preethi’s character expressing quiet frustration over the absence of a formal proposal, despite the couple sharing a deep bond over time. As the moment unfolds, Vidhu’s character gently reassures her, revealing that the beach they stand on holds special significance as the place where their journey first began. The scene subtly establishes the film’s emotional layering, rooted in memory, love, and shared history.
Directed by Rathna Kumar, 29 is positioned as a romantic drama set against a nostalgic backdrop, with the story unfolding in the timeline of 2010. The film brings together a strong technical team, including music composer Sean Roldan, cinematographer Madhesh Manickam, and editor RS Sathish Kumar. The supporting cast features Mahendran, Avinash, Shenaz Fathima, and Prem Kumar in key roles. The film is slated for a theatrical release on May 8.
At the World of 29 event, filmmaker and producer Lokesh Kanagaraj shared his excitement about backing the project, stating that although he has not yet watched the film, he has strong faith in Rathna Kumar’s ability to deliver a heartfelt and engaging story. He also expressed his satisfaction in collaborating with his banner on a project that leans heavily on emotional storytelling.
Speaking at the same event, Rathna Kumar acknowledged the challenge of releasing 29 alongside major films like Kara and Karuppu, but remained optimistic. With a mix of confidence and humour, he emphasized that persistence and belief in the content would ultimately help the film find its audience.
The director also took a moment to appreciate producer Karthikeyan Santhanam for his unwavering support. He revealed that despite initial criticism surrounding one of the film’s songs, the producer stood by the project and played a crucial role in shaping its promotional strategy and overall momentum.
Interestingly, Rathna Kumar shared that 29 originated from his personal Facebook posts and short stories. Encouraged to expand these ideas into a feature film, he crafted a narrative that blends real-life emotions with fictional storytelling, giving the film a grounded yet cinematic appeal.
Producer Karthik Subbaraj described 29 as an “evergreen love story,” praising Rathna Kumar’s writing for its simplicity and emotional strength. He also hinted at the film’s potential to evolve into a broader storytelling space centered on love and relationships.
Composer Sean Roldan echoed similar sentiments, noting that the film carries the essence of classic Tamil romantic dramas. He highlighted its honest portrayal of relationships and commended the performances of the lead pair as emotionally resonant and authentic.
Lead actress Preethi Asrani described the film as a nostalgic journey, shaped by its 2010 setting, music, and emotional tone. She also spoke about the importance of having a supportive co-actor, crediting Vidhu for bringing ease and understanding to their on-screen dynamic.
Reflecting on his experience, Vidhu shared that 29 felt like a full-circle moment in his life, tracing back to conversations from over a decade ago. He described the film as an emotionally intense journey and praised Rathna Kumar’s empathetic approach to storytelling.
With its blend of nostalgia, romance, and emotional depth, 29 The Film is shaping up to be a sincere love story that aims to resonate with audiences seeking meaningful and relatable cinema.
