Lingaa – the highest overseas grosser of 2014

Even with mixed reviews and average word-of-mouth publicity, Rajinikanth’s Lingaa has become the highest overseas grosser of 2014 by beating Vijay – AR Murugadoss’s Kaththi. According to overseas trade estimates, Lingaa has grossed 37.35 crores within ten days of release closely followed by Kaththi, whose gross stays at 35.16 crore for its entire runtime. However, Shankar – Rajinikanth’s Endhiran remains unbreached with a lucrative 60 crore as the all-time top overseas grosser followed by Sivaji at the second place. Now, Lingaa occupies the third slot in the all-time top overseas grossers list.

Meanwhile, things are not all good back home where the distribution has gone haywire thanks to the exorbitant prices at which the film was sold to distributors across territories. An amicable solution is expected before Christmas.
