Interview with GV Prakash: “EIPI is the highest pre-release business for me”

GV Prakash is currently shooting in Pondy for director Rajesh’s Kadavul Irukaan Kumaaru (KIK). He has Enakku Innoru Per Irukku (EIPI) set for release this Friday, June 17 and sounded all charged up in this conversation with Kaushik LM for Only Kollywood. Incidentally, it was also GV’s birthday …

“The buzz for the film has really picked up and distributors, exhibitors are enthused about it. The viral promos have done the trick and all areas in TN are sold out for good terms. It is the highest pre-release business for me, and producer Lyca is already in the profit zone. The trade expects EIPI to open better than TIN actually.

The film would open in about 75 screens overseas, in addition to 280+ in Tamil Nadu. We are looking at 400+ screens all over South India. The Telugu release would be done after some time, based on the response here.”

How was it to work with Sam Anton again, after the hit Darling?

“Sam is a very good director and takes care of his artistes so well. He is very comfortable to work with and will can his shots without the actors even knowing about it. He has finished both Darling and EIPI in record time with perfect planning. Lyca is very happy with our work.” eipi damce

So what is the USP of EIPI?

“The humor and the concept will be the USP of the film. In Darling, we had solid horror infused with situational humor. Here, a proper mass backdrop has been gelled with situational humor. The buildups will also be humor based. It has converted well on screen and the audiences will laugh, as much as we enjoyed making the film. The film is targeted at the youngsters mainly but the family audiences will accept it too.”

You seem to be catering exclusively to the youth, looking at your career choices …

“For now, I’ll cater to the youth and maybe later, I’ll think about how to go forward. For the next couple of years at least, that’s the correct game I feel.”

You must be the busiest actor in town with such a packed pipeline. Any idea of slowing down in the coming days?

“I have to slow down in due course. After each film, I have to do some R&D and analyze how to go about it.”

gv prakash ar rahman rajeev menonSo, what’s the status of your other films after EIPI?

“Bruce Lee is about 98% done and would be my next release post EIPI. KIK is 65% complete. These two would complete my release line-up for this year.

I will start the Rajiv Menon film after KIK. It would be a musical with a pan-Indian appeal. After a long time, a musical is coming out and 4 songs have already been delivered by Rahman sir. The film has a brilliant script by Rajiv and I am looking forward to joining the sets.

The Sasi – Siddharth film would be an emotional family drama, and I would be working on the music as well. Regarding Kedi Billa Killadi Ranga 2, Pandiraj sir has to lock the dates.”gv prakash siddharth sasi film movie

As a composer, ‘GV 50’ Theri was a smash hit. Can we expect you to work solely as a composer only for the biggies, going forward?

“It depends on my time and how people are ready to wait for me. I’ll repeat some of my successful combinations for sure. But nothing has been finalized yet. My line-up for now is set and my hands are full.”

Best wishes GV for a mighty successful outing with EIPI!
