Comparisons with Ajith, Vijay will not emotionally affect me: Suriya

Suriya in an exclusive interview to Vikatan has opened up about comparisons with Ajith and Vijay by media and fans.

Ajith’s hit film Mankatha and Vijay’s hit film Thuppakki were shot in Mumbai. Is this the reason why Anjaan was shot in Mumbai completely?

I was in a conversation with Nagarjuna sir once and he told me , “It’s a circle. Everyone of us, at some point in our career, has acted in a film set in the Mumbai backdrop. It’ll happen automatically.” That’s how Anjaan happened too, without any desperation to act in a Mumbai based film. This project has been in motion for a long time. Otherwise, I’m not solely doing a Mumbai film just because they did.

How do you manage comparisons with Vijay, Ajith in terms of hit, collection?

You have told yourself that I’m on par with Vijay and Ajith on the collection of essays published in Vikatan on Tamil cinema heroes. But, both of them are seniors than me, in age and experience. Twenty five years of hard work is what made them stand where they are today. The immense fan following they command is its fruition. It cannot happen overnight. I don’t have any particular objective while choosing a project. I’m keen on acting in films where I can learn something new. I’m travelling in my career without any grave expectations for the future in mind. So, these comparisons will not emotionally affect me.
