Review Overview

Saridhaana Saridhaana
Edhedho Ennam Vandhu
Mounam Pesum
Dheva Dhevathai
Dhaagam Theera
Edhedho Ennamvandhu (Solo Version)

A Masterpiece, one for the ages.

Exciting sounds, exceptional tunes and mind-blowing melodies is what Amara Kaaviyam album is all about. If there is a new-age composer in Tamil cinema who is reminiscent of both Ilaiyaraja and AR Rahman, it is Ghibran. Period.

Cast: Sathya, Mia George, Thambi Ramaiah

Direction: Jeeva Shankar

Music: M. Ghibran

Label: Sony Music India

  • Saridhaana Saridhaana – Ghibran flaunts his dexterity in guitar effortlessly in this free-flowing, instantly likeable opening song of the album. The song’s transition from the first interlude to the second charanam is a phenomenal study. Impressive vocals from Yazin Nizar and Thompson Andrews. Probably, the best fast-paced, energetic track from Ghibran’s discography so far? It would, definitely, not be an overstatement at all. The assortment of sounds towards the end of the song is mind-boggling. Ghibran also gets fabulous support from Madhan Karky’s notable lyrics. Guitars rule, after all
  • Edhedho Ennam Vandhu – Haricharan’s pitch-perfect vocals are rightly supported by a predictable yet brilliant tune. Ghibran produces some of the best interludes in Tamil film music and this song is a proof for that. A splendid tune and wonderfully sung by Haricharan and Padmalatha
  • Mounam Pesum  – This is a masterly piece of work by Ghibran. This song was the talk of the album even before its release since the composer roped in veteran singer KS Chitra. A haunting keyboard prelude introduces us to the impeccable vocals of Chitra. But, Somwya Mahadevan steals the show hands down with her haunting vocal interlude though it appears short. Ghibran’s lovely orchestration after the first charanam is quite reminiscent of AR Rahman in the 90s
  • Dheva Dhevadhai – This song’s tune has shades of Nayyandi’s Inikka Inikka written all over it. The orchestration is quintessential Ghibran all the way. By far, the least competitive track in the album compared to the mighty tracks listed above, but only by Ghibran’s standard. Ranjith’s gorgeous vocals neatly complement Madhu Iyer’s(Airtel Super Singer fame) husky rendition
  • Dhaagam Theera – An enticing tune and Padma Iyer’s infectious vocals make this track one of the best melodic pieces from Ghibran. The pristine rendition of Padma Iyer is bound to grow on you gradually. It is the kind of song which stays with you and lingers for long after listening to it. A poignant and well-composed pathos, this!
  • Edhedho Ennam Vandhu (Solo Version) – Ghibran-regular Sundar Narayana Rao has handled this solo version really well with his earthy rendition. You can now safely conclude that Sundar Narayana Rao is to Ghibran how Pradeep Kumar is to Santhosh Narayanan in recent times
